Louise's class in action.

Louise, one of our Kickboxing instructors, keeping her "Toughguy" head above water.

Sam, one of Louise's Kickboxing students, competing in the Mansfield Triathlon.

Kick boxing developed by combining a number of styles of martial art, Western boxing naturally, elements of Thai boxing such as the use of elbows, knees and shin kicks, aspects of French Savate, and eastern kicking and striking arts.

These hybrid systems were further developed particularly in America according to the type of competition format envisaged by the association concerned.  Some competitions ensure sufficient kicks are thrown in each round, others disallow the use of elbows and grappling or throwing.  Still others define the amount of protective equipment to be worn or not as the case may be.

The reality of full contact systems and the fitness and "mental" conditioning have made it hugely popular.  Prospective students though, are not thrown in at the deep end.  Lessons begin with forming the correct strikes against impact equipment, especially focus mitts, fitness activities, according to current fitness levels, and compromised partner work such as body boxing.  No one is forced into full contact sparring.
